TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko on Tuesday lamented news about a local community banning a Christmas celebration from being held in the area of Bogor. He deemed this type of intolerance as a setback that must be addressed.
“It is truly regrettable. From a personal point of view and Presidential Chief of Staff, it is really heartbreaking something like that can happen,” said Moeldoko at an event held at the National Library in Jakarta on December 27.
A video that has spread across social media platforms shows a group of people within a community in Cilebut, Bogor, seemingly rejecting a family from celebrating Christmas at their house.
Moeldoko asserted that intensive communication must be held with stakeholders to prevent a democratic setback. The Presidential Staff Office (KSP), he said, had helped solve a previous issue similar to the current viral one which involves the Indonesian Christian Church (GKI) Yasmin in Bogor through intense communication.
“In the end, the Yasmin Church [case] was solved with the regional leadership. The Regent also visited the KSP after that to convey his appreciation as we were intensively involved in it, in the context of communication,” said Moeldoko.
